One of the reasons for staying in the Lauwersoog area was to visit the seal sanctuary in Pieterburen. Amazingly, the seal sanctuary is in the middle of the countryside, surrounded by farms. We had a fantastic time here where visitors are invited to help support the vital work carried out by the sanctuary. There were quite a few seals at the sanctuary undergoing various levels and stages of rehabilitation.
